Breast Reduction Miami

What is breast reduction?

Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) is a surgical procedure that reduces breast volume while improving its shape. It involves removing excess fat, tissue, and skin to achieve the patient’s desired breast size and proportion.

In this surgery, a breast lift is combined with removing the excess volume of the breast. This is the ideal choice for a woman with excessively large breasts who are experiencing neck pain and back pain due to the weight of the breast. Some of the other reasons why men and women consider breast reduction in Miami include:

  • To relieve body pain and discomfort caused by overly large breasts or macromastia.
  • To alleviate the mental and emotional distress that macromastia and gynecomastia (men with enlarged breasts) have caused.
  • To achieve proportionate and symmetrical breasts.

Furthermore, overly large breasts can make some women self-conscious and hinder them from leading active lives. If you have the same dilemma, then it’s time to consider breast reduction surgery to bring back your confidence in your own body.

How do surgeons perform breast reduction surgery in Miami, FL?

Like any other surgery, it’s essential to talk with your doctor first about your current health status and medical history.

The operation starts by putting you under general anesthesia so that you’ll feel no pain during the entire procedure. Here is the step-by-step process of what happens in an actual breast reduction surgery.

  • Your surgeon will make an incision around the areola to access the breast tissues underneath. Different incision techniques (e.g., circular, keyhole, inverted T) can be used, but it will depend on how much fat needs to be removed.
  • After that, the nipple will be repositioned while still attached to its blood supply. For patients with pendulous breasts, there may be a need to remove the nipple and attach it to a higher position on the breasts. If necessary, your surgeon may also remove some excess skin on the areola (dark area around the nipple).
  • Next, excess fat and skin will be removed, sometimes through the help of liposuction.
  • Lastly, your surgeon will perform a suture deep within the breast tissue to add support and give it a new and desirable shape. The skin incisions will be closed using stitches or surgical tapes.

Right after your surgery, you can immediately see the new look and volume of your breasts. However, you may also see a draining tube and bandages attached to the breasts to prevent fluid build-up. It will be taken out 1 to 2 days after the procedure.

Frequently asked questions about breast reduction in Miami

How long does the surgery take?

The whole operation usually takes two to three hours or longer. It will depend on the amount of tissue to be removed and your preferences on the appearance of your breasts.

Is the procedure painful?

NO. You’ll be asleep and feel no pain during the whole operation. However, after the procedure, expect to feel pain and soreness around the chestal area. You may also experience numbness, swelling, and bruising a few days after the operation.

Fortunately, all of these can be relieved with a pain-killing medication that your doctor will prescribe.

How long will it take for me to recover fully?

Generally, patients spend at least 1 to 2 nights in the facility to recover and for the draining tube to be removed. Here’s how a recovery timeline will look for most patients who had undergone breast reduction in Miami:

  • First few days at home—you should focus on resting, eating healthy, and drinking plenty of water. Avoid doing strenuous activities and heavy lifting. You will also need to take some time off work and help with daily tasks, such as chores and running errands.
  • After one week - continue resting but incorporate gentle walking into your routine—still, no heavy lifting.
  • After one month—incisions will partially heal, and you’ll feel reduced pain and swelling. You’ll still need help with some activities, but you can gradually ease into your normal routine.
  • Most patients fully heal after 2 to 3 months.

When can I wear a normal bra?

After the surgery, you may be required to wear a compression or support bra for a few weeks. It would take a few months before you can wear a regular bra again. It’s best to clear it first with your doctor.

How much does a breast reduction in Miami cost?

According to the 2020 report of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost is around $6,000. Contact us for an exact quote based on your specific needs.
