What Is Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift, or thighplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that reshapes
the thighs. During this operation, excess skin and fat are removed from this body area. It is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes 2 to 4 hours to complete. A thigh lift makes the inner and outer thighs firmer and more proportionate.

Types of Thigh Lift
Full Thigh Lift
A full thigh lift is designed for patients with severe sagging who need to remove a lot of tissue. During this surgery, an incision is made at the top of the thigh, extending down the inner thigh to the knee. Dr. Askari removes excess tissue through this long opening and tightens the remaining skin. This technique gives the thighs a more toned, youthful appearance. A full thigh lift dramatically reduces loose skin on the upper leg and is highly invasive. Significant recovery time is required.
Mini Thigh Lift
A mini thigh lift is suitable for people with mild to moderate sagging. This less invasive surgery requires a shorter recovery period. Dr. Askari makes a small incision in the groin (a crease where the leg meets the torso). Using this opening, he repairs sagging skin and removes excess fat in the upper and inner parts of the thigh.
Spiral Thigh Lift
The main benefit of this technique is that it helps avoid the vertical scar that is common in traditional thigh lifts. Dr. Askrai makes an incisi on in the upper thigh (groin area) and extends it horizontally along the butt crease (gluteal fold). This allows the surgeon to address severe sagging in many areas, including the back, front, inner, and outer thigh.
Thigh lifts can also be classified in other ways. For example:
inner thigh lift (medial thigh lift) — eliminates excess tissue from the inner thigh.
outer thigh lift — focuses on the saddlebags and other parts of the outer thigh.
vertical thigh lift — involves a larger vertical incision in the inner thigh.
posterior thigh lift — remove excess skin, fat, and tissue from the back of the thighs.
Consultation & Preparation for Thigh Lift
During thigh lift consultation, Dr. Askari discusses the patient’s goals and evaluates their medical history and overall health. The surgeon examines the patient’s thighs and selects the best techniques and incision placement. Dr. Askari also reviews the procedure and explains the potential risks.
We recommend patients to prepare for the surgery in the following way:
arrange for transportation and assistance during recovery
avoid smoking for a month before surgery
discontinue certain medications that increase bleeding or swelling
create a recovery space at home
prepare easy-to-cook meals or snacks
Clear communication between the patient and surgeon is vital so that all aspects of the operation, recovery process, and anticipated results are fully addressed ahead of time.
Thigh Lift Procedure Steps
Anesthesia
Thigh lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia to maximize comfort and prevent painful sensations. The anesthesiologist provides intravenous medications to put the patient to sleep before the operation in our state-of-the-art surgical center. The patient is continuously monitored throughout the procedure.
Incisions
Dr. Askari makes an incision in the groin (inner thigh crease), extending to the knee area or along the buttock crease. The incision length may vary depending on how much tissue must be removed. It is placed strategically to hide scarring within the body’s natural creases.
Contouring and Reshaping
Through the incision sites, Dr. Askari eliminates small pockets of fat using liposuction, which helps refine the shape and contour of the thighs. Excess skin is then cut away. The remaining tissue is lifted and tightened with sutures to smooth and tone the thighs.
Closing the Incisions
Once the desired contouring effect is achieved, Dr. Askari closes the incisions with sutures and surgical tape or glue. Over time, the incision lines heal and fade.
Add-On Procedures
Tummy Tuck
Many women are left with excess skin on their thighs and abdomen after significant weight loss or pregnancy. Combining
a thigh lift and a tummy tuck into one surgery allows Dr. Askari to contour both areas and make the overall body profile even more toned. Anesthesia is only provided once, and recovery time is condensed. Patients can achieve impressive results by combining these two procedures while saving time and avoiding additional stress.
Arm Lift
An arm lift (brachioplasty) is a cosmetic surgery that improves the appearance of the underside of the upper arms. It removes excess sagging skin and fat to create a more toned, youthful look. This surgery requires an incision from the armpit to the elbow. It can significantly boost confidence, especially when patients wear short sleeves. Therefore, many people add this procedure to their thigh lift surgery.
Thigh Lift Recovery
Recovery from a thigh lift requires time for the incisions to heal and for swelling to subside. Patients generally need to take 7-14 days off from work and normal activities to rest. During the first few weeks, bruising, swelling, and mild discomfort are expected. Compression garments are typically worn for one month to reduce symptoms and support the new figure.
Most patients can return to non-strenuous daily activities after 2 weeks,
but vigorous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for at least 4-6 weeks to allow proper healing. Complete recovery may take several months. Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle promotes faster healing.
Candidates for Thigh Lift Surgery
A thigh lift can help many patients improve their appearance and self-esteem. Potential candidates for this procedure include:
Patients who have lost a significant
amount of weight and have excess
sagging skin in the thigh region
Patients with advanced age
whose skin has lost elasticity
and became loose
Patients who have cellulite or fat deposits in the thighs that do not respond to diet and exercise
At the same time, a thigh lift may not be the best treatment for some groups of people. For examp le:
Patients with skin problems due
to chronic infections or damage from
radiation therapy
Patients with unrealistic expectations
about the amount of improvement a
thigh lift can provide
Patients who have not yet completed
childbirth, as subsequent pregnancies
can reverse thigh lift results
