Chemical Peels

Peels are acidic solutions that are applied commonly to the face (or other desired parts of the body such as neck or chest) that results in “peeling” or exfoliation of the outer layer of skin stimulating growth of new healthy and more enhanced skin. The treatments help with improvement of fine wrinkles, pigmentations, melasma, age spots, sun damage, or scars. Peels come in various strengths (superficial, medium, or deep) and are chosen based on the desired effect.

Botox®

Part of facial aging has to do with formation of wrinkles and lines on the face primarily in the forehead and around the eyes. These wrinkles form due to motion of facial of muscles that have attachments to facial skin and thus create folding or wrinkling of skin with time. To prevent these wrinkles from forming permanently, Botulinum toxin type A, popularly known as Botox (Botox Cosmetic®), is used to temporarily weaken the facial muscles. When properly applied, one can be free of wrinkling of the forehead or around the eyes while still having normal motion in the face and avoiding the undesired “botox look.” There are also other products that are gaining popularity such as Dysport® and Xeomin® that work in a similar manner but require different concentrations.

Injectable Fillers

Filler are used in plastic surgery to smooth wrinkles, soften creases, or restore volume such as in plumping the lip and enhancing youthful appearance of the face. Fillers are gel-like substances that are injected into or just beneath the skin. There are several different types of fillers in plastic surgery:

Hyaluronic acid (e.g Restylane®, Juvederm®, Belotero®): HA is a naturally present substance in human skin that is used to keep facial skin plump, smooth, and hydrated. HA lasts 6 to 12 months or longer before it is absorbed.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (Radiesse®): Calcium Hydroxylapatitie is naturally present in our body and is thicker than hyaluronic acid. This filler stimulates collagen formation and is used to correct deeper wrinkles and lines. It lasts up to 12 months or longer.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid (Sculptra®): PLLA is biocompatible synthetic substance that lasts up to 2 years before it is absorbed and is used for correction of even deeper facial wrinkles. This filler also stimulates natural collagen production under the skin to build volume and contour.

Kybella (Deoxycholic acid)

This injection is a non-surgical way of reducing fat and fullness under the chin. The ideal candidate is an adult with moderate amount of fat in this area. One may require several injections depending on results desired and degree of the fullness under the chin.

PRP

PRP or platelet-rich plasma is prepared by drawing a sample of blood from one’s arm, spinning it in special machine to concentrate it in a defined fashion. This solution can be injected into the face or desired part of the body. Through release of special cytokines and proteins, PRP works to rejuvenate the skin while enhances the texture and volume. In addition to its regenerative effect on appearance and health of the skin, there is evidence of efficacy of PRP injection for hair growth in men and women with thinning hair (androgenic alopecia).

Autologous Fat Injection

Frequently, fat injection is done for the deep wrinkles of the face, to increase check volume, and to smooth and create youthful facial features. To perform this type of injection, limited liposuction needs to be performed. The harvested fat is then prepared using a specific technique and is injected into areas of the face or body needing volume restoration and enhancement. The injected fat results in permanents augmentation and filling of tissue.

Breast

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia or conscious sedation. Your provider will discuss both with you before surgery to determine the best option.

You should have limited risks, so long as you have no history of complications from general anesthesia or sedation. Generally, the procedure lasts two hours or less, and patients go home afterward.

Who are Ideal Candidates for Breast Implants in Coral Gables?

How Breast Augmentation is done?

This surgery is done using a small incision below the breast or around the areola (the pigmented circle around the nipple). Based on the shape of the breast and your goals, we can choose the right implant for you (anatomic vs round, gummy bear vs soft).

At times, it may be possible to use patient’s own fat through liposuction and transfer it to the breast to increase the size of the breast. Feel free to ask us about breast augmentation in Coral Gables using your own tissue.

Breast Lift

A breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure completed to correct the look of the breast.

What should I know about getting a breast lift in Coral Gables?

You can obtain the perfect look through a breast lift without breast implants in Miami.

The breasts naturally lose their shape by losing breast volume and weakening the breast tissue with age. A breast lift can lift and reshape the breasts to bring back their youthful appearance.

This surgery is done to improve the breast's shape, elevate, and create younger appearing breasts. It can also correct asymmetric breasts or large and stretched areolas. It may be necessary to add implants to achieve fullness in the breast, but it is not always needed.

Breast lift

Why would I need a breast lift?

With time, the skin of the breast will stretch and result in a droopy appearance. A Breast lift will correct this change while perfecting the shape of the breast. Not only will the breast be elevated in the chest, but it will appear larger while no implant is used.

Several factors may contribute to the need for a breast lift. It may be due to:

  • Weight loss
  • Pregnancy breast changes
  • Hormonal changes
  • Age

Information about breast lift surgery in Coral Gables

A breast lift without implants in Coral Gables near Miami is performed under general anesthesia. Typically the surgery can be completed in approximately two hours. After the surgery, you will go to the recovery room until stable and ready to go home.

You mustn't drive home and have a loved one help you for a few days following surgery.

You may have bruising, swelling, and numbness in the breasts after a breast lift. Sleeping in a recliner or propping up on a pillow can help with the swelling. Recovery is typically short, and you may be able to move some the day after surgery. Normal activities can be resumed approximately two weeks after the procedure.

Breast lift

Are there other factors to be aware of for a breast lift?

There may be some risks involved, just as with any surgery. Some patients also experience sensations or numbness in the nipples that generally resolve within 3 weeks of the surgery. Sometimes the symptom may last for a few months. In rare cases, the numbness can be a permanent side effect of a breast lift.

Most patients can return to regular activities, including work, 1-2 weeks after surgery. Strenuous activities are best to be avoided for at least a month after the procedure.

A breast lift can last for many years but be aware that weight changes, pregnancy, or aging can cause the breasts to change again. Implants can help the longevity of results.

Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?

Some women wonder if they can breastfeed if they have had a breast lift. Up to 75% of patients can breastfeed after surgery. Consider it is best to wait until after you are breastfeeding and likely have children achieve long-lasting results from breast lift surgery.

Breast Lift with Augmentation

This surgery is meant for breasts that have stretched and droopy skin while having lost volume with time. It combines lifting the breast while increasing its volume with an implant to create an ideal shape breast. This surgery is the ideal choice for an individual who has lost weight or has breastfed multiple children and thus has loss of volume in the breast with skin that has stretched overtime.

Breast Reduction

This procedure reduces the breast volume while improving shape of the breast.

In this surgery, a breast lift is combined with removing the excess volume of the breast. This is the ideal choice for a woman with excessively large breast who is experiencing neck pain and back pain due to the weight of the breast.

Breast Reconstruction

One of the many questions a woman with breast cancer may consider either before or after a mastectomy (and in some cases a lumpectomy) is whether or not they wish to have a breast reconstruction procedure.

At the office of Revive Plastic Surgery, we maintain a position at the forefront of advances in both plastic surgery and breast cancer care to help patients restore their silhouette and body contours following a mastectomy. In addition to rebuilding the size and shape of breasts in women who have been diagnosed with cancer and have undergone a mastectomy, or having a preventive mastectomy due to genetic risk factors, we also reconstruct breasts with developmental defects or that exhibit deformity as a result of trauma or previous procedures.

For women having a mastectomy, breast reconstruction procedures vary case-by-case. When breast reconstruction is performed the same day as a mastectomy, it is referred to as an "immediate reconstruction" procedure. With an immediate approach to care, the breast reconstruction procedure is coordinated with and follows the surgical team performing the mastectomy. Alternatively, as decided by the patient, or determined by the requirements of the case, breast reconstruction can also be performed at a later date in time. When provided months or even years later, the procedure is referred to as "delayed reconstruction".

To rebuild and recreate natural-looking, symmetrical, and attractive breasts, either an implant or the body's own tissue, which is referred to as autologous or "flap" reconstruction, may be used. Some procedures involve a combination of techniques, and a flap reconstruction may also include the placement of an implant. Our primary goals are recreating a breast and nipple that restores prior body proportion, allows clothes to fit better, and boosts the self-confidence of women who have either lost one or both breasts to a mastectomy. Every consideration is factored into choosing a surgical method and approach to care that suits the patient's body type, and any expressed aesthetic preferences.

The choice is a personal one, and the timing varies case-by-case. As your trusted partner in care, our plastic surgeon will answer all your questions as well as address all your concerns regarding your best options for breast reconstruction.

Corrective Surgery

This surgery corrects or improves shape, form, and size of the breast after prior breast surgery.

Woman who have had prior cosmetic breast surgery (lift, augmentation, etc.) with time may experience changes to the shape of the breast or experience problems with the implant. Many of such changes may be unavoidable while others may be due to technical mishaps at the time of the initial surgery years prior. This can result in deformities which can be corrected through corrective surgery. A treatment plan will be individualized based on specific desired improvements needed.

Body

Liposuction in Coral Gables

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures currently being performed. A liposuction procedure is an excellent way to remove excess fat cells from certain areas of the body to sculpt and improve body contours. It shapes and sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas around the :

  • thighs,
  • knees,
  • buttocks,
  • waist,
  • hips,
  • abdomen,
  • chin,
  • cheeks,
  • neck and
  • upper arms.

Liposuction, also known by the colloquial term "lipo," involves the removal of excess fat through a minimally invasive procedure. As the most common plastic surgery procedure administered in the United States, liposuction is performed on hundreds of thousands of patients each year. By safely drawing fat out of your  "problem areas," our plastic surgeon in Coral Gables can artfully re-contour fatty parts of the body with quick precision. A liposuction can be performed on its own, or it can be used in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures such as a tummy tuck, facelift, or breast reduction.

What to expect during a liposuction procedure in Coral Gables?

Liposuction is performed under local or general anesthesia, to ensure treatment is comfortable and pain-free. After making a minor incision, a surgical vacuum or syringe that is attached to a cannula targets and withdraws excess concentrations of fat lying between the skin and muscle layers. With a liposuction procedure, we can remove stubborn fat from many different areas of the body to produce a more sculpted and thinner looking physique. When used with facial plastic surgery procedures, liposuction can help to slim and refine the appearance of the jawline, chin, and upper neck.

At your cosmetic surgery consultation in Coral Gables, we’ll discuss your areas of concern and determine which type of liposuction procedure is best suited to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Tummy Tuck

In this popular surgery, the excess skin and fat are removed from the underbelly and mid waist. Frequently the procedure is combined with liposuction of the flanks to improve the contour of the mid waist. In addition, “corset” procedure is performed to tighten the abdominal wall (the deep layer of the belly involving the abdominal muscles.)

Brazilian Butt Lift

This technique uses one’s own fat (usually from belly and back) to enlarge the buttock and hips to create a pleasant hourglass shape appearance to the hip and waist. Following extensive liposuction, the fat in the less desired area (e.g belly and flanks) is transferred to an area where enlargement or enhancement is needed (buttock/hips). Alternatively this procedure can be combined with placement of an implant between the muscle and fat in very thin individuals who do not have adequate fat deposits.

Face

Face lift

While one of the oldest plastic surgery procedures, the approach to facelift has changed tremendously in the last decade. With better understanding of facial aging and anatomy, facelift surgery creates a younger but natural looking face by elevating and suspending facial tissue while removing extra skin. In modern facelift, we avoid the old way of doing facelift which relied primarily and only on pooling the skin resulting in the exaggerated “joker” deformity of the face.

Facelift can be combined with surgery of the eyelids and/or neck lift in the right patient. Recovery varies from patient to patient and can range from 2 to 4 weeks.

Neck lift

With aging, almost everyone experiences loosening of the skin and muscles below the chin, as well as fat accumulation this area. These changes result in loss of the youthful sharp angle between the jaw/chin and the neck. The goal of neck lift surgery is to tighten the muscles and skin below the chin and in the neck while removing excess fat from this area to create a nice definition between the chin and the neck.

Depending on the degree of correction needed, one may only require non-surgical treatments (e.g. Kybella), or less invasive surgical procedures such as liposuction. For more severe cases, neck lift with use of the small incisions under the chin is necessary. Frequently neck lift is combined with facelift to correct changes in the mid face in addition to the neck.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty or “nose job” improves both the appearance as well as the function of the nose. Both the cartilage as well as bony skeleton of the nose can be modified to create a more desired shape and size to the nose while improving breathing. As no two people have the same nose, this surgery is customized to the patient’s nose type as well as his or her individual goals.

Facial Implants

Face implants are formed solid implants commonly made of silicone or PTFE and are primarily used to enhance the appearance of the chin, cheek bones, and jaw line. Similar to other implants used in the body, facial implants are non-reactive, permanent, and safe when used properly. The surgery is usually done through small incisions inside of the mouth with no to minimal visible scars.

Eyelid Surgery

As a natural effect of aging as well as hereditary and environmental factors, your eyelids can stretch, the tissues can lose their elasticity and excess fat may start to accumulate in the areas around them. These changes can make your face appear older or more tired, and even limit your peripheral vision. Blepharoplasty is a common cosmetic procedure that can repair droopy or sagging eyelids and eliminate unwanted puffiness under the eyes by removing problematic areas of fat, skin and muscle tissue to improve your facial contours and restore a more youthful appearance.

Depending upon your specific needs and cosmetic goals, eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both above and below the eyes. While blepharoplasty may be provided as a single surgery, additional procedures such as a facelift, browlift or skin resurfacing are sometimes recommended to address multiple aspects of facial aesthetics to achieve the best results.

While the tissues around the eyes are delicate, the procedure produces minimal and virtually invisible surgical scars. For upper eyelid procedures fine sutures are placed along the natural folds above the eyes. In procedures to reduce puffiness and bags under the eyes, the sutures are inconspicuously located along the lashline, or depending upon the details of the surgery, inside the lower lid.

Although you may experience some swelling and bruising after blepharoplasty, the eyelids heal remarkably quickly. Our office will give you specific instructions on how best to care for the eyelid area following your surgery and instructions as to which activities to temporarily avoid.

The satisfying effects of facial surgery to improve the appearance of the areas around your eyes last long after the treatment. Many patients who have undergone a blepharoplasty report a renewed sense of confidence and a more positive self-image.

Forehead Lift

Like many other parts of the face, with aging, forehead muscles and brow may experience droopiness. This can result in a constant “tired” or “frowning” look. In more severe cases, upper eyelids are also affected exaggerating the tired look of the face.

Brow lift or forehead lift involves techniques to elevate the brow and commonly are combined with upper eyelid rejuvenation and removal of extra skin form the eyelids. Brow lift can be done through small incisions in the hair-bearing part of the scalp to keep the scars hidden and minimal either using “endoscopic” or “open” technique. The technique is individualized based on the degree of the lift and correction necessary.

Massive Weight Loss

Abdomen

In patient who have lost significant weight either on their own or following weight-losss surgery, special technique and modification of abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) allows the surgeon to reliably remove excess tissue while tightening the abdomen, creating a nice and desired waistline.

At times, the surgery would have to be extended to the back and excess tissue needs to be removed circumferentially. This procedure is called circumferential body lift and can be modified to improve the size and shape of the buttocks as well.

Arm

Removal of excess tissue from the arm or bachioplasty is done through incision on the inside of the arms, where it can be less visible. Depending on the amount of tissue needed to be removed, the incision may be extended toward the elbow or behind the arm pit.

Thigh

Thigh lift done after significant weight-loss removes extra skin and fat from inside of the thighs while elevating the drooping tissue of the thighs to create a youthful appearance and contour. Frequently, in order to get enough elevation, this procedure is combined with liposuction.

Male Plastic Surgery

Gynecomastia Surgery

Men can feel self-conscious about their bodies, just like women. If a man has a condition known as Gynecomastia, they may experience significant insecurities. In order to feel more confident, many men in Miami-Dade often consider male plastic surgery in Miami as a way to treat their condition.

What Should I Know about Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition in men where the chest has a feminine appearance due to breast tissue or overhanging excess fat and skin. The cause of Gynecomastia is different among patients. Yet, knowing the exact cause is important to the outcome of the surgery.

What Can Cause Gynecomastia?

Often the condition is caused by hormonal imbalances. Men can have decreased testosterone and elevated levels of estrogen. It can be a natural imbalance, usually presenting in different life phases such as infancy, puberty, or late adulthood.

Another cause of gynecomastia is side effects from medication. Have you been on medication and noticed changes in your body? Certain medications can also cause Gynecomastia. Medications to treat prostate conditions, steroids, certain antidepressants, and even heart medication can all be a cause. Be sure to discuss any noted changes or side effects to drugs with your physician, as well as the use of alcohol.

It is also important to note that Gynecomastia can be attributed to other health conditions causing hormonal imbalance, including:

  • Tumors
  • Certain kidney conditions
  • Cirrhosis of the liver
  • Pituitary insufficiencies
  • Or inadequate nutrition

Sometimes you can correct the condition with lifestyle changes, diet, medication adjustment, or fixing the underlying cause. If not, then surgery is an option to correct Gynecomastia cosmetically.

What Does Gynecomastia Surgery in Miami Entail?

Surgery for Gynecomastia involves removing excess tissue and skin while tightening the chest skin or reducing the areola's size (the area around the nipple) to create a masculine appearance.

We modify Gynecomastia surgery in Miami for each patient. It may involve removing excess tissue, liposuction, and an adjustment to correct the appearance of the areola.

The goal is symmetry and a natural appearance and most, but not all patients are candidates.

Liposuction

Through small holes, the excess fat is removed from various parts of the abdomen, back, arms, or thighs to improve the contour of those areas. At times ultrasound may be used to further break down the fat and ease its removal (UAL/ultrasound assisted liposuction).

High Definition Liposuction

HD liposuction or “etching” lipo is a new and exciting modification of traditional liposuction technique. In HD lipo, based on an understanding of muscular anatomy of the body, particularly chest and abdomen, liposuction will be performed in various levels to create profound definition following the pattern of the deep muscles in that area. This way, one can enjoy a slim or athletic look where muscles of abdomen and flanks or thighs or shoulders are well defined with the natural grooves and lines.

Facelift
